Losing Weight in CrossFit

Have you tried every “diet or weight loss program out there” and seen success only to watch it slip away and end up right back where you started? 

 

Your not alone. Many people go from program to program, workout to workout, and diet to diet, trying every quick fix solution to loose pounds and inches with little to no results. Those that do find results often watch those quick results slip away and return to the same weight they worked so hard to lose in the first place. If this sounds like you or someone you know we are going to let you in on a little secret..

 

…..THERE ARE NO QUICK FIX SOLUTIONS

 

You wouldn't get off the couch after years of being sedentary, run a quick 3 miles and hope to compete in a marathon would you? Hopefully not. So if most of the diets and weight-loss programs out there don't yield lasting results what can?  It’s no secret the success that many people have had transforming their bodies and lifestyles in CrossFit, but before we get into the benefits of how a CrossFit program can help you lose weight, let’s examine some of the common misconceptions in regards to nutrition and weight-loss. 

 

Why what you have been doing hasn’t worked:

 

  1. Weight Loss is 90% dependent on SUSTAINABLE nutritional intake and sleep. 

  2. Meal Plans don’t work (they often don’t lead to long term success and it’s often more important to educate yourself on how and what to eat rather than have someone else print out a “diet” for you to follow)

  3. You decided to lose weight for a specific trip, wedding, or other event. More often than not these types of motivation for weight loss equate to drastic changes in nutrition and exercise that aren’t sustainable not to mention that most fall off before or after the event rather than being motivated by long term results and health. 

  4. You Haven’t Taken the Time to Educate Yourself on Nutrition and Eating. Everywhere we turn there’s the next great diet and weight loss plan offered at just $9.99 and with processed food companies plastering marketing tools such as “low fat” and “low sugar” or “0 sugar” on their products which leads the average person dazed and confused on what healthy eating really looks like. 

  5. Your Not Surrounding Yourself With the Right People. Environment plays a huge role in consistency and success especially with regards to something like nutrition and weight-loss. You are a product of your environment. Try surrounding yourself with like-minded and motivational people who will push you to reach your goal in a safe and effective way. 

 

 

 

What Will Work:

 

  1. Be Willing and Open to do what it takes and educate yourself on how to eat. Prepping and knowing what is going into your body is worth far more than paying someone hundreds of dollars to write you a meal plan you won’t follow after a few days or weeks

  2. Be Motivated by Long Term Health Benefits and Becoming a Better Version of Yourself Each Day. If you enjoy the process the results are far more achievable. No more starting over on monday or new year's resolutions. Everyday is a step forward and an occasional detour is not a reason to let one bad snack or meal turn into a bad day of eating or even worse a week 

  3. Encouragement is in small wins and sustainability. Anything that is worth it such as long term health and gradual weight/BF% loss will come with time and CONSISTENT changes to training, eating, sleeping, and stress habits 

  4. AT this Point People all Over the world are starting to see and hear about how CrossFit is changing lives. CrossFit is a lifestyle characterized by safe, effective exercise and sound nutrition. CrossFit can be used to accomplish any goal, from improved health to weight loss to better performance. There are examples all over the internet and social media of people losing hundreds of pounds, but it comes over time, sometimes even months or years but these people keep the weight off by:

    1. Learning what good nutrition is and how to sustain it

    2. Surrounding themselves with a great community of people who will encourage them each and every day 

    3. Realizing that each and every step in the right direction, no matter how big or small, is still a win! 

 

How do I start? What should I do Next?

 

Eat Meat, Vegetables, Nuts/Seeds, Little Starch, No Sugar, which CrossFit Founder and coach Greg Glassman has been preaching all around the world for almost 20 years at this point.  Also, try tracking your food first. See what you actually consume on a daily basis, is it too much, is it too little, are you not eating real foods...you’d be surprised what most people see when they actually log their food for a week. Lastly, make sure you have a great community of people, coaches, and exercise program that is built on encouragement and sustainable results.
